Need a Parts Washer That Applies Rust Preventative?
Many manufacturers need more than a cleaning system. After parts are cleaned, they often require a rust preventative coating to protect metal surfaces during storage, shipping, or the next stage of production.
The challenge is that applying a rust preventative can add time to the manufacturing process. Excess coating may need to drain from the part before it can move to the next operation, creating bottlenecks and slowing production. For manufacturers operating on tight schedules, even a short delay can affect throughput.

A Custom Solution for Fast Production Environments
AEC Systems designed this parts washer for a customer that needed to apply a rust preventative while maintaining a rapid production pace. The goal was to protect the parts from corrosion without creating a lengthy drip-off stage that would slow the manufacturing process.
To accomplish this, the system was designed with a cycle time of approximately 35 seconds. A traveling manifold uses shop air to remove excess rust preventative from the parts after application. Rather than allowing the coating to drip away as waste, the excess material returns to the washer tank for reuse within the process.
This approach helps streamline production while supporting more efficient use of the rust preventative solution.
Why Rust Preventative Application Matters
Many metal components leave the cleaning process with bare, exposed surfaces. Depending on storage conditions, humidity levels, transportation requirements, and the time between manufacturing operations, corrosion can begin forming quickly.
Applying a protective coating can help:
- Reduce the risk of flash rust
- Protect parts during storage and transportation
- Improve product quality and appearance
- Minimize rework caused by corrosion
- Support downstream manufacturing operations
The appropriate rust preventative process depends on the material being cleaned, the required protection period, and the customer’s production requirements.
Custom Parts Washing Systems for Unique Applications
No two manufacturing processes are exactly alike. Some facilities prioritize throughput. Others focus on stringent cleanliness specifications, corrosion protection, reduced labor requirements, or limited floor space.
AEC Systems works with manufacturers to evaluate their cleaning challenges and develop systems designed around their specific requirements. Whether the goal is faster cycle times, improved drying performance, rust preventative application, or another specialized process, the cleaning system should support the way the facility operates.
